9 panels announced for Raksu elections, tomorrow is the day to withdraw candidacy
Nine panels have been announced for the Rajshahi University Central Student Union (RACSU) elections as of Thursday afternoon. Out of these, no student organization or independent panel except Chhatra Dal and Chhatra Shibir has been able to announce a full-fledged panel. Discussions are underway on campus to form one or two more panels surrounding the elections. Meanwhile, candidates will be able to withdraw their nomination papers tomorrow, Saturday.

According to the latest revised schedule, the withdrawal of nomination papers will be on September 13, and the final list of candidates will be published on September 14; the formal campaigning will begin on that day. Then, voting will be held at the academic building from 9 am to 4 pm on September 25. The vote counting and results will be announced on the same day.
According to the latest information from the commission, 20 people will be contesting for the post of VP, 14 for the post of GS and 16 for the post of AGS in this election.
The nine panels announced are the Chhatra Dal nominated panel, the Chhatra Shibir-backed ‘Sammilit Chhatra Jote’, ‘RAKSU for Radical Change’, ‘Democratic Chhatra Parshad’, ‘Aparajeyo 71, Aparatharyo 24’, ‘Adhipatya Oikya’, ‘Sarvajanin Chhatra Sangsad’, ‘Sachetan Chhatra Parishad’ and ‘Swatantra Chhatra Jote’.
There is discussion on campus that there may be competition among the announced panels among the six panels. Among the top posts of these panels, the current president of the branch Chhatra Shibir, Mostaqur Rahman alias Zahid, will contest for the post of Vice President (VP) from the Chhatra Shibir-backed Sammilit Chhatra Jote panel. Fazle Rabbi Md., former coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement, will contest for the post of general secretary. Fahim Reza and ‘Student Network Sochhar’ President SM Salman Sabbir will contest for the post of Associate General Secretary. From the panel nominated by the students, University branch Chhatra Dal Vice President Sheikh Nur Uddin Abir will contest for the post of VP, Office Secretary Nafiul Jiban will contest for the post of GS and Branch Chhatra Dal Joint General Secretary Jahin Biswas Esha will contest for the post of AGS.
Mehdi Sajeeb, former coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, will contest for the post of Vice President (VP) from the Anti-Dominance Unity Panel, Salauddin Ammar for the post of General Secretary (GS), and Akil Bin Taleb for the post of Associate General Secretary (AGS). Fuad Ratul, convener of the Samajtantrik Chhatra Front, will contest for the post of Vice President (VP) in the Democratic Student Council Panel, Kausar Ahmed, treasurer of the Chhatra Union (Ekan) for the post of General Secretary (GS), and Nasim Sarkar, convener of the Chhatra Gano Manch, will contest for the post of Associate General Secretary (AGS).
Mehdi Maruf, president of the Chhatra Odhikar Parishad, will contest for the post of Vice President (VP) in the Raksu for Radical Change Panel. In addition, Afrin Jahan, former president of Uttaran Lekhak and Pathak Sutikagaar, and Al Shahriar Shuvo, general secretary of the Chhatra Odhikar Parishad, will contest for the post of Associate General Secretary (AGS).
Former coordinator Tasin Khan will contest for the VP post in the general student parliament panel, Rajan Al Ahmed, a student of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, will be the general secretary (GS) post, and former coordinator Mahair Islam will be the associate general secretary (AGS) post. Tasin Khan is the first female VP candidate in Raksur’s 63-year history to lead a panel, university officials said.
